Web site coming soon . . .

7th Chelmsford have recently decided to develop a web site to assist in the promotion of the Company, to attract new membership from the Springfield area and to develop computer skills within the Anchors, Juniors and Company sections.

Things will take a while to be developed but before plans are set in stone, why not contribute to the process by letting us know what you want? Maybe you want to help write the pages, take some photos or draw some pictures to put on the site? Maybe you are a parent who would like to help out?

Let me know by emailing me at 7thchelmsford@gmail.com

I will keep this page updated with how we are progressing with the site until the day we launch . . .

We are back into the autumn season of Boys Brigade now and it is time I raised the profile of this site to the boys and their parents. I still need to get feedback and ideas on the most useful content to provide on this website in the future. I'll organise a letter to send home with the boys next Monday which will hopefully generate some email with support, ideas, suggestions from parents. It has been 1 month since I set all this up and I thought it was time to do some more. So far I have had no emails so I expect that nobody has yet discovered this web page. So the next step will be to write a note to hand out on the last day of the session to all boys. Hopefully some of them or their parents will come and take a look at this and send me some comments or ideas. At least it will test the email address!

During the summer break, I will create some ideas for page designs to present here during September.

Some ideas for content:

The dates for all the sessions including any nights we won't meet like Bank Holidays and school holidays. We'll include the times of all sessions and provide brief details about what we did in each session so the parents know what we have been up to!

Duplicate details from all the notes we have handed out. We'll include the details of the events in between the session dates.

We could set up a 'virtual' badgework chart for each boy so they can have a look and see where they are. They could also share the page with friends and relations to show them what they have been up to. To go with the chart could be links to the work they have created - i.e. LEGO models, drawings, puzzles, craft etc. We will have to formulate a policy for this and it could involve setting up aseure, password protected area of the site just for members only. This would allow us to put up more detail, photos etc.

Reviews of the various events could be placed on the site - write-ups and photos, results of the sports etc.

Details about the structure of BB and how 7th Chelmsford Company fit into the wider Chelmsford BB world.

Information and contact details about the various leaders.

Info about Anchors, Juniors and Company Section - age ranges etc.

Competitions for the boys to enter - this could be a print-out puzzle sheet, Bible quiz, colouring competition.

Information about all the badges the boys can earn throughout their BB career including how they should be set out on their armbands.

Information about fall out, attention, salute, marching, prayers, format of the evening, rules to the popular games.

Information about the clothing; costs of BB polo shirts, sweatshirts and the dress code for uniform.

Information about subs - how much, payable on the night or in advance every half term.

Information about the Church we meet in, the surrounding area of Springfield. This part could be a project the boys do themselves - writing and taking photographs. It would be quite nice to document Springfield in photographs and then see how things have altered in years to come - maybe a project to repeat every five years?

Links to other local things to do. This could be places the boys have visited with their families or school and have enjoyed, the local parks, swimming pools, sports clubs, cycle ways etc. Anything they want to share with each other.

Open invitation to anyone who would like to join BB to come along and try us out.

Well - that is my list to start us off. If you can think of anything else, email me at 7thchelmsford@gmail.com. I want a really good list of ideas so I can start building a few example pages.

goodbye for now,

David

It has been agreed that the best website address to publicise this new web site is www.7thchelmsford.org.uk. This has now been set up along with www.seventhchelmsford.org.uk as a secondary back-up. They both redirect to this web space, hosted by the main UK Boys Brigade web site www.boys-brigade.org.uk.

An email account for general use by the 7th Chelmsford Company has also been created. This is 7thchelmsford@gmail.com. This is a flexible account which can potentially be accessed by all the leaders.

Google Analytics has also been set up using this account so we can monitor the number of visits received to the site.
